Council reviews three drainage improvement options for Woodside fields
Town Council · Meeting of January 20, 2026
CT CROMWELL — Cromwell Town Council and Board of Finance review athletic field drainage options. During a special meeting, the Council and Board of Finance reviewed three designs for Woodside Intermediate School field improvements ranging from $1.5 million to $3.1 million. Engineering firm Weston and Sampson presented findings of poor drainage, compacted soils, and insufficient topsoil causing extended downtime after rainfall.
The options included a Sand-Cap Build-Up System at $1.5 million (4-6 months), Partial Reconstruction at $2.4 million (6-9 months), and Full Depth Reconstruction at $3.1 million (18-24 months), each with subsurface drainage chambers for up to 50-year storm events. Town Manager Anthony Salvatore noted the town is exploring field rentals from other municipalities during construction.
